First Django application goes live

by Andy Boyle.

Check it out: http://projects.tampabay.com/fcat/

I originally wrote the models in Django with the help of Jeremy Bowers. Then Matt Waite made it better, followed by Martin Frobisher setting up the pretty design.

Matt imported the legacy data, and on Thursday he imported the new FCAT data once it was sent out by the Florida Department of Education.

It’s a project that was done on deadline, and also done pretty quick. It shows Django’s versatility, and how projects can be quickly completed. I look forward to more projects like this.

I would’ve helped more during this week, but I’ve been working on the NOW desk (news on Web). The same day this Web app launched, I got my first front page byline.

So all in all, a pretty good week at the St. Petersburg Times.
